LADIES FIRST PLAYING DAY
Lady President Sylvia Leonard and Club President Bill Bell start the proceedings for the 2010 Ladies First Playing Day.
OPENING DAY 17 APRIL 2010
Bill Bell, President for season 2010, welcomed members and guests to this years event. Although somewhat cool, the weather remained dry and there were no shortage of participants on the greens. The Presidents wife, Barbara Bell, threw the first jack and bowls of the season which was the prelude to a vety enjoyable day. Barbara was obviously on a mission as she was also part of the winning team along with Jeanette Robertson and Eric McCracken. Well done.
It was also a special day for Gerry Ritchie as he became Vice President after a short presentation by Bill Bell. Hopefully, the club will not have to wait
until opening day next year for the next Vice President to be named!

ACTIVE SCHOOLS PROJECT
Kirkhill Bowling Club now offer an exciting new alternative programme available for pupils at Cathkin High School during PE lessons. Students in S4 now have an additional option of attending the bowling club during lesson time and have the opportunity to experience a new activity and become involved with the local community.
The initiative, backed by South Lanarkshire Active Schools, got underway recently when Club President Jim Armour welcomed the pupils to the club. The youths tried their hand at the game, assisted by club volunteers, Di Winning, Fiona Burns, Ronnie Wilson, Hugh McNulty and Billy Lockhart. The initial positive feedback from both pupils and PE staff has now led to a continuation of the programme after the summer holidays. Active Schools Co-ordinator, Scott McLean commented: "Not all pupils will take up traditional forms of physical activity after they leave school and that's why I'm delighted that the coaches at Kirkhill Bowling Club are working on a voluntary basis to introduce young people to the game. It also looks like we have established a school to club link which can be built upon for years to come."
After 5 years in the primary schools, co-ordinators have been appointed to work within high schools, together with PE departnents, school staff local sports clubs and other partners to increase the physical activity of young people.
